Where the Eagles Fly has been present for many years in supporting many inter-religious and intercultural initiatives. The International Conference Women of Peace is a fundamental moment in this project, and it inspires many other activities of our association.
From the very beginning, in 2001, Women of Peace begun as a moment of communion and mutual participation, when important women representatives of different cultures and religious traditions share with us the profound messages of peace and love that every religion professes. We had with us representatives of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, Buddhist nuns, leaders of Animistic religions, women who struggle against religious repression, terrorism and capital punishment.
In Women of Peace of 2004 some women, who were hostages of the terrorists during the tragic events of school n. 1 in Beslan , witnessed their desire for peace to us, in spite of their tragic suffering. It is not easy to really desire peace, when one lives in fear and hatred, it is easier said and written than done, but one should never give up. To speak about peace in our world disrupted by so many wanted, forgotten or “necessary” wars, can appear more and more as a utopian desire, but again the mothers of Russian and American soldiers give voice to this desire: they do not want to have their children come back to them in a coffin.
Women of Peace2005, will give voice to all the courageous mothers who get together to say NO to war, to their children’s death. We will meet: MARIA FEDULOVA – Russian Federation of the Mothers of Soldiers, ZALINA TAUCHELOVA – Committee of the Beslan Mothers, LIZ GOLDSTEIN – Association of USA Mothers against College Recruitment, HABIBA, Sufi Saint from Uzbekistan, who will share the spiritual world of Islam, and GRANDMOTHER SARA, Mohawk Ceremonial Leader of the Movement Traditional Peoples of Peace in the World, who will remind us the respect we owe to our Primordial Mother, RAE ABILEAH – Codepink Women for Peace.
Women of Peaceso that, more and more our hopes for peace can be realised!
These women daily struggle for future generations, also for our children, because we should never think we are safe from certain spirals of violence. Our HERE must not be Italy but the world. Therefore, all of us can support them in their actions, subscribing a DOCUMENT where we underline our will to be beyond any political and religious division, beyond the juxtaposed blockades of history, beyond being Russian or American, Cecene of Irakis, for a common desire for peace; a DOCUMENT that all the protagonists of Women of Peace will subscribe: the civil and religious authorities, the participants, the public and all those who want to say NO to war. This DOCUMENT will be given to the Authorities of the State of the different countries involved.
The courageous mothers present have fought to save their children and with them all the young people who can find themselves in the same situation; they are fighting to help and give support to young people, for the future is really in their hands, most of all a future of peace for our world. We truly believe that the contribution and help of young people is fundamental to make these women feel that their struggle and their engagement are acknowledged and supported by new generations.
